"We don't control the price of gas"

Is it just me, or does it seem like every time the
heat gets turned up on the White House, it
becomes more difficult for us to buy gas and oil?
It's like the country gets punished with higher
fuel prices if we look into what they're doing.

So, I propose, instead of those stupid backdrops
they keep using with words like "growth", "jobs",
"prosperity" [yes, it's blatant bull and propaganda]
.....perhaps the powers that be need a slogan like

"If you turn the heat up on US, you won't be able to
turn the heat up at home!"

Hey, why not make it complete with some kind of
Rosie the Riveter-type icon? Only she can be
shivering and holding a gas can.

Pop Quiz!!!

This is an actual piece of schoolwork that came home
from my son's useless teacher:

"Would you like to eat 7/8 or 3/4 of a pizza?"

Master L had circled 3/4.....

Useless Teacher indicated in red
pen that "7/8" is the correct answer.

What the fuck?!? Maybe the kid's not that hungry.
Maybe we taught him not to hoard food.
What is this teacher's message??? "Greed/gluttony
is good" ???

I....just....can't.....stand it !!!

That's Horrid! - A Return to Form?

As anyone who stops by here surely knows, my output
has been spotty lately. I just wasn't "feeling it". But
there could be hope.

Yesterday, as I read about the shootings at Virginia
Tech, I IM'ed Mrs. L:

"Check this out, from the 'net:

'Today the university was struck with a tragedy that
we consider of monumental proportions,' said Charles
Steger, president of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
State University in Blacksburg, in southwest
Virginia. 'The university is shocked and indeed horrified.'

[then I commented]

'Since we're in the middle of all this crap with our local
school, I think I know what that guy means!! 30 students
killed, at $9,887.50 per semester ($19775 per year)
comes out to $593,250 that the school loses out on. I'm
sure THAT'S what they consider the true tragedy!' "

Mrs. L responded: "That's horrid!!"

Maybe so. But, I've learned - especially this year with
Master L's school - that educators ultimately seem more
like accountants.

We already KNEW I was cynical.

Plus, this probably means I'm feeling slightly better
these days. And isn't that what really counts?

Everyone's a Critic

The other day I was driving somewhere while Master L
was riding in the back seat.

I put a "cleaning" CD into the player. Periodic maintenance,
you understand. When the disc is in, it plays a constant
drone tone so you know it's in there.

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.........

Master L, from the back seat, asks, "Dad, is this one
of YOUR songs?"

Ah...the little wise guy....my sarcasm mode switches
on, and I answer, "Yes....what do you think of it?"

He ponders for a moment, then answers:
"Well...if you added some other notes, some words
and a beat people could dance to, it would be o.k."

A vision of Homer Simpson strangling Bart flashes
in my mind....."Why you little....."

Like I said, everyone's a critic.
